Medium 6 - the hypothetical web

what should a website be *
when i first starting looking at the internet i thought it would be great to be able to go to the sites of writers and artists that i like[d] - to see what they were doing or thinking about etc— this was a bit naive because the people whose sites i would have wanted to see didn’t have time to make a web site

but now it seems that personal web sites might be a good idea for unimportant people like me — social media have mostly turned to shit and i didn’t like them from the beginning
Medium is not as bad as some others but there is really a lot of negativity and i’m not interested in most of what’s written [t]here — i still like Pinterest but the ads are getting annoying and i’m not sure how long that site will remain usable

instagram is an ugly mess
facebook and X are evil and ugly (visually ugly with ugly content)
mastodon might be OK but i haven’t looked at it yet

what i want to do now is make a website to show / demonstrate that it can be done — that i can do it
i want something to show (publish) my artwork and writing — to write about things that interest me:

collecting / hoarding
visual art
reading and writing
music (i’ve been finding too much good music recently —

(Bandcamp could replace all music publishing)

but not human interest things which don’t interest me

and not little personal matters like ‘we have a new foster dog’ - which i’m sure would interest everyone but i’m not going to write it

.noncom — no commerce no combat

i write - i am not a writer
i have no desire to be published unless this can be called a publication
i make visual art but i am not an artist
i don’t want a gallery representation — (an interesting word - re-presentation)
i’m not a web designer but i know how to get things where i want them on a page

i’m not looking for a new internet but a different way of using the internet — i don’t know what i envision (i’m not a visionary which is good because they are almost always wrong)
maybe just finding several sites that i like a looking at them from time to time and spending less time on Pinterest —

so — my web site

it’s very basic and simplistic
it’s not elegant

but i actually enjoy looking at it — i have a hard time being satisfied with what i’ve done but this will probably be the closest i can come
(it’s not about what one sees but how one looks at it )

i had planned on not putting anything on the site until i made changes and corrections but decided to put the visual art section back up as it was - so that there would be something to look at while i worked on the rest of the site

will anybody be interested — i don’t know — at this point (for me) it doesn’t matter — it’s something i want to do

i’m not sure if there are many people who have done what i’d like to see done — there may be quite a few — i’ll start doing more searching —
i’m also don’t know how many interesting sites it would take to keep me interested

i know that many people with similar interests to me need to publish or sell artwork but i think the commercial aspects can be kept separate — i’m interested in art but what’s behind the art interests me more

the biggest problems will be maintenance and adding content enough to keep people interested

*i’m currently reading What Should a Person Be - Sheila Heti —i’ve had a hard time finishing books recently but i like this one — an interesting fragmented style

what should a website be
what should a book be
what should a work of [visual] art be
what should music be
what should performance be
