the Reflections segment in The Mind’s I — a possibility for writing hinted at previously
write a page
after write reflection on that page
later write reflections on that page and also the addition
on to infinity
death
continuous possible expansion — new pages and reflections on old —
each new page could spawn an infinity of pages — inward and outward spirals
(I still have to go back over all of this with the word processor —
each new addition to the writing makes it more difficult to “write” or “construct” the book
(these spurts of writing that often follow illness etc — days of nothingness —
a death that overhangs it all — (Burroughs on the book Queer)))
a similar idea has pervaded my ink drawings — at times burst out with a series of designs
each could be varied into an infinite number of drawings or paintings — (thoughts on drawing and painting —
incompleteness and completeness — what constitutes the finished product —
good paper or canvas? etc etc) — at other times I simply vary designs
spin off from simple words — I come across “mapping” in Hofstadter and mind cycles begin — the term was also mentioned in an art article — don’t know which (fractal geometry was mentioned in different context in A in A and Arts) — the idea of mapping fascinated me — bit mapping of computer graphics — another analogy to my writing ideas where something like this could map into another piece of writing (a small number designates a note which is at the end of a page or the book etc) — a small chapter could bring about an entire book which would be mapped into it by means of designators
Cortázar Hopscotch
idea for a book which consists of a page of numbers
each of which designates a section to be read — sections could in turn have smaller maps
maps could be read in different directions etc
a difficult task to write in that sections should lead into each other from different directions —
the difficulty is overcome by the knowledge that it’s all arbitrary and in art such as
this chance is as good an arranger as conscious choice — (in reading Cortázar I often got off the track
and read the wrong section but the sequence was as good as the author's — which the author pointed out)
lines on a map (Simon’s Conducting Bodies (a book I should reread soon)) — Leary goes back on the shelf —
Simon comes down — read to p9 — fascination of the interweave of different stimuli that make the self —
alternate attention to different books —
