SHAME? NOTES?
tomorrow is the first day of spring
reading Butor Passing Time (which could be a phrase or a title) last night — getting back into it — it starts slowly — but it is really a well constructed book —
I’m not sure that I would say well written because the style is not really good in places but it may be the translation
some thoughts on the shame novel — which will finally begin tomorrow — ideas layer —
the idea of the novel consisting of writing in this room or on this room then
the idea of expanding it to include writing about Plattsburgh to take in some ideas
for a Plattsburgh novel that I’ve had for a long time (since I first/last read the Butor)
then the idea that the older notes which I’ve already decided to use —
make a similar structure — an inside and outside of time
this room here and now — a day before the beginning of the/a novel —
two hungry cats — Phoebe on the computer — a sunny day — nearly 10 AM
my coffee is finished and I want to finish this piece of writing
before I go down stairs for another and feed the cats
the sound of a passing truck
passing time echoes through the words
the sounds
sounds of silence
sounds of passing time
last night I had the idea of rereading my new novels during the course of the book and making notes etc
the text will expand as do all my texts — far outside of its bounds and dissipate — into what
as always
the Butor is a good text for this part — this beginning because it starts in a middle time and moves back and forth
