patterns of light on the kitchen ceiling
looking at Dan Flavin book yesterday and this morning —
<i> regret missing the retrospective in fort worth
(do i want to go to houston for the Cruz-Diaz show)
flavin works quite beautiful —
in the book vs on the wall
the light is very bright — sometimes too bright — but a photograph doesn’t really convey the work
but the light painting does make very good ‘stills’
(the idea of making things for photographs)
looking at a couple of pieces of stacked plywood and Flavin works
i like assemblages but maybe i should go back to some sort of ‘austere’ work
a couple of pieces of wood stacked on each other
rhythms of repetition of the stacks
coloring the sides of the wood different from the front surfaces
subject
landscape - plants - drought
stones - concrete
the perspective ‘distortion’ of the camera
the camera is right but we want to see parallel lines as parallel lines even though we don’t
light
color
gradients - variations
the flow of light
coloration - discoloration
black white shades of gray
