reflections on conceptual art exhibit in montréal — art and language — guernica in pollack’s style —
i like the work — why? — i like the flow of paint no matter who or what did it — were the colors intentional? —
the question of making works in someone else’s style — wish i had written down the full title because i like it
“picasso’s guerica in the style of jackson pollack’ ? — darboven (? spelling <spelled wrong in the notes>) —
a composite of black and white units — liked the work when i saw it from the entrance more than close up —
i didn’t like the individual units — the images — the idea of good composites from not so good cells —
my desire to make interesting cells — but i guess he probably liked the units he used <
i wrote durboven and he but i think the reference is to hanna darboven>
lili dujoirie (? spelling <dujourie>) black and white video —
the boredom of the piece combined with a desire to see what would happen — but i didn’t stay —
my own ideas to use the off on switch (which i assume she did) — the probable boringness —
good and bad boringness cf lippard — what i don’t find boring and many others do
parisi work in broken or cut glass with gold writing — would have been a lot better without the gold —
just pieces of glass — in general i don’t like embellishment —
notes from lippard — conscious exploration of ideas — da vinci’s fire —
the quote from da vinci on the art images in a fire — one of the first uses of idea in art —
ideas as art —on theory — my visual art doesn’t depend on theory but what i like and like to do —
i’m not really that interested in real in theoretical justification of my work although at times i do
<think this is fucked up> — to me theory is a separate type of work —
an integral part of my writing but different from my visual work — thus i’m interested in theory as theory —
as i like independent objects better than assemblages — sort of>
