snow
the beauty of light snow — wish it were about 10 degrees warmer
elation and depression
a good day to do nothing but I have to take a walk downtown — or I can drink tea instead of coffee
yesterday I worked on some wood carvings for the first time in a long time —
the thing of getting physical — cutting and drilling and pounding
thinking of some pieces that are more amorphous (Pepper things in mind)
but probably will stick to the anthropomorphic upright shapes that I had thought of to begin with
some set of figures to be put in a line
<i> need to solve the problem of mounting flat pieces of metal
thinking of small works but also have some feeling for something large
thinking of all the problems with painting such as storage etc but also have some desire to spatter paint
or something and a sort of contrary desire to make some very large calm arrangement of things —
but large is a problem — modular is also a problem — one to be worked on —
how does one transform small scale to large — Rosenquist’s paintings — but that is not the effect that I want —
there is something about a piece that could be put away in a small box or expanded —
the Blast things are basically failures which is probably due to the fact that they are made by many artists
(most of whom I don’t like) — the Gellis piece that I own is a lot better but there is no framework —
the things can’t be pinned up or whatever — any framework of large scale is also space consuming
