thinking of some methods of notation of sounds and patterns — it’s the patterns that I want to notate — should not be difficult — a box with the parameters along some sort of time line — a rough drawing on paper and then get it into some graphics program so that the timing can be notated more precisely — it’s too difficult to graph the parameters (velocity etc) precisely so they could be just indicated by numbers

running a sound through a filter based on the number series used to create the sound form or whatever — over and over or whatever (Lucier) — not sure that I like this piece but it is a nice background — need to get lost in this type of work — something (again) about works that change constantly — I don’t like the idea of a piece written for someone or this whole idea of performed music — the stuff could be better done with sound systems that do the music on their own — but the technology changes so much that it’s impossible to keep the pieces going — so I suppose that something with simple sign waves and a traditional instrument has scoring advantages — but does it really matter what sound generator is used

thinking of a lot of visual art also — and all the books that I want to take apart etc — and the magazines that I want to get rid of

somehow the methodology or whatever of this music (Lucier) seems wrong — quote marks are needed here ‘methodology’ ‘wrong’

like it should be done in some other way
like there is no ‘value’ to the objects placed in the piano
like electronic would be just as good

or sampled

gratuitous — pretentious
not really — maybe it’s just too subtle for me — but something strikes me as wrong — even though the sound isn’t really bad — it’s actually rather nice — but I like Lockwood etc better — I like ‘Sitting in a Room’ better
