previously artists went to Europe or looked at black and white reproductions no where near as accurate as a photograph and that lacked scale clues the same a photos do

is there some sense to not making the art work — of photographing and montaging the pieces so that all experiences of the work are mediated by the photograph

how do i photograph long pieces of copper pipe
should i make some sort of ‘scaffolding’ to put the objects in ?
that leads right back to the framework ideas i was thinking about in houston

maybe just some wall that i can hang things on and photograph them — get rid of the pieces before i do anything with the photos so that i’m not tempted to redo them etc
or keep them to make new photos ?

take a lot of pieces and put them together but instead of working with physical objects make a photo assemblage

once the decision is made there is no turning back — but there are very few of the things that i’ve gotten rid of in the past that i regret no longer having — and even with those i don’t have a lot of regret

nostalgia for the object
but i’ll still have thousands of objects
make the collection into smaller and smaller objects

the idea of modules and being able to walk along a work — whatever — move about in front of it
