last night thoughts on getting rid of things — one of those thoughts that seem like a revelation — that i should just get rid of the papers and things and start over

is my art a collection

the idea of books and overprints etc — i don’t need all that material even if i decide to do something like that — but more and more i want to get away from the physicality of art
to work in digital things

the idea was that i should just keep papers that i like and organize them into notebooks from time to time — use them as a sort of meta art — a hobby that i do while making art

burgoyne Diller
John Whitney
thinking of geometric art like Diller’s done with the computer

again i’m fascinated by the difference between looking at a work on a wall etc as opposed to a re/production — in a book or on the computer screen
being able to walk along or around a work —

(Caro — Darboven — Rauschenberg —
large abstract expressionist things

the idea that i should leave those things to someone else and concentrate on the digital with physical work as — what

a hobby
material for digital work

the idea that i should work more with my own designs — i’ve been thinking too much of using photographs etc — that still has a place but i also want to get back to my black and white things and geometry
the ideas that i had for video works before the hardware was capable of doing anything near what i wanted to do

(so that brings me back to the question of whether or not to keep the computer books — i think i still have the java books but not the C books)

9/25/21 think about work like Diller’s — what can be done with digital art like that — geometric color areas
could some video work — slowly changing colors — shifting one or two color channels
