not keeping track of the day — take a few days off
i don’t like wasting pages — i want to keep track of some daily things in this notebook but i’m afraid of ‘ruining’ pages — i’ll use the blank pages — i can tear them out — i want to paint or draw as much as i write — (try to make them interesting (these notes to myself — ‘try’ as a command — telling myself to do it — ‘try’ as future tense [i’ll] try to make them neat))

finished ronell yesterday
got the new andre book out —
<carl andre: preface to my work itself>

my notes get scattered again —

andre p231 last para

andre’s work is irreverent — ?
how does one ‘perceive’ irreverence — it seems (what’s a good word) — it’s diverse but not usually seen that way — most of the non ‘standard’ things are not very good — or no good —
‘hard work’ — it doesn’t seem like hard work to me — i don’t like the idea of ‘art’ ‘worker’ — class differentiations

time — time factors
is this meaningless — isn’t all art about time — isn’t all art about space — can one write about art without these meaningless ideas

“...Andre’s invitation to walk on the sculptures”

— but not in museums

NOTE — AGAM — i’ve thought about for years (old statues that get worn & polished
ANDRE —(art as floor)

“i have produced a body of work that tends to generate it’s own future.”

artist’s statements can be ridiculous — pretentious
is there any art that this statement doesn’t apply to
why ‘tends to’ — i have produced a body of work that generates its own future ‘body of work’
the future of art —
no art has control of its future — what it generates is usually minor in an historical setting

this was a year ago — reading the Andre book — not sure if i ever finished it — it’s still on the downstairs shelf and not in the art library

these notes on andre could be good for art text
philippe vergne (p231)

Andre's work is fundamentally, radically, irreverent.

most art criticism is bullshit — especially in a museum or gallery publication

(232 top left)

Andre's sculptures are about the tension between space, time, and moves of representation and presentation

this section needs a lot more annotation

idea — andre type piece with stones or other objects of squares — arranged as diamonds (corner to corner) — maybe different heights
